Petra Zanki
Petra Zanki is award-winning Seattle based choreographer and theatre maker. After obtaining her Graduate degree in Comparative Litterature and French from the University of Arts and Philosophy in Zagreb, she continued her studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris (UFR Theatre et Arts du Spectacle). As dancer, performer and choreographer, she has worked with Oliver Frljić (HR), Borut Šeparović (Montažstroj HR/NL), Shadow Casters(HR) and Via Negativa(SLO). Petra was granted multiple residencies across Europe among which two-year choreographic scholarship for 6 Emerging European choreographers from ICK-Amsterdam/Emio Greco and Croatian HIPP-TSP, in 2012-2013. Named best Croatian young choreographer in 2010. she has been choreographer-in-residence at the Zagreb Dance Center from 2009 to 2013. Her dance and theatre performances, among which Wierfüsser, Paces, and The Curators’ Piece, have been performed across Europe, Canada, UK, Australia, and the US, to critical and audience acclaim. Since her arrival in Seattle in 2013. she has been invited to present her works at On the Boards/NW new works festival 2017, Seattle International Dance Festival, reSET at 12 Ave Arts/Washington Ensemble Theatre, Base, and at Velocity Dance Center. In the US Petra has received following residencies awards: bst residency from The University of Washington School of Dance, IMP series at the Velocity Dance Center, Base Subsidy Artist Residency 2017, Base Artist Residency in 2018, James Ray Residency 2018 and was nominated for the NEA Creativity Connects Fellowship in 2018. The texts about her works have been published in Dance and Performance magazines such as Tanz, Performance Art Journal-MIT, Performance Research Journal, The Bomb, Kretanja, Teatar, and Frakcija. Her texts on theatre and dance have been published internationally. Growing up in Croatia during the war, Petra’s main interest remains transformation of pain into landscapes of beauty for the benefit of humanity.
